We connected with Frank this past summer up in Anderson, CA while on a trip to visit the Northern California Sportsman Expo. Frank is a staple in the “Jefferson State” region and runs MyOutDoorBuddy.com.

MyOutdoorBuddy is Southern Oregon and Northern California’s premier site for up to date hunting, fishing and area news.

Frank and Tyler took a couple minutes to chat about myCampmate. They discussed what this community is, how it works and how members use this innovative information sharing platform.

Today, Apple gave the green light! The MyCampMate app is now FREE!

You’re probably wondering why, right? Well it’s simple really. The more like-minded people that use the app and website, drop pins on the map and plan trips together, the more we’re all going to be able to discover and experience.

Of course, since these are hard times, and well $0.99 is quite steep (sorry, could you feel that sarcasm there), we made it free. We have been told that behind a good community is a good listener. So we heard from some of our mates and test users and decided to make the MyCampMate app FREE!

We listened to the requests for new features as well. Check out what has been added to make the app more user-friendly and functional.

I am sure that many of you have seen the polls that we pop up on the right hand side of the site from time to time. It’s kind of neat to see what y’all are up to and how you “do” the outdoors.

The recent poll that was presented was… ”Do you bring your smartphone camping”? Now I know we have an iPhone app that you take on your trip but I figured that the answer would be sort of in the middle. We were amazed at the overwhelming answer we received.

70% of you answered, “Heck yes we do”. We were actually a little surprised by this, that’s a lot of you! So we started wondering… what do you use your phone for when you are out camping, on the road or heading out on a trip? What are the most useful functions of the smartphone to you?

I wanted to send out our love and say thank you from myCampmate to all the Moms out there today! You are so special to us and make our lives so much more enjoyable with you in them.

I remember my Mom helping to pack up all of my gear when I was heading out on my first big hiking trip in Central Oregon. I remember seeing her scared face when I was about 12 years old and saying goodbye to her as my Dad and I walked off into the wilderness for a week.
