Kids + Ice Cream = Messy Memories

Over the river and through the woods to… Lake Almanor we went!!!

The road to Lake Almanor is quite the white knuckle drive, as you serpentine up through the mountains then down through the Feather River valley on narrow and curvy Highway 70. It must be said though that the drive is stunningly beautiful, however, when it is hot and you have a child in the back seat that gets car sick you’re not exactly enjoying the beauty!

By the time we reached Chester, CA the whole family was ready to get out and stretch their legs, clean up and EAT!!!

Chester is the kind of small town you see in feel-good family movies about camping, summer camp and road trips. It’s quaint, rustic, quiet and full of killer little places to grab a bite to eat and a treat or two. We were in need of both something to eat and a treat so we stopped at the Pine Shack Frosty. When you log into the camping trip planner and locate the map, type into the search bar, Pine Shack Frosty and you’ll know where to go.

The Pine Shack is right across the street from the Burger Depot. (I told you it was straight out of the movies!) When my little one saw that there was ice cream involved in this stop, funny how she perked right up and that dizzy feeling vanished!

She loved her ice cream and, as you can see, her clothes got to taste a little of the ice cream as well. And not to be out done her little sister wanted to get in on the action too. I should point out that the cone she is holding is the SMALLEST one!!

The Pine Shack Frosty in Chester, CA is one of those places that’s been there forever and is supported by travelers in the summer but locals throughout the year. Seeing it filled with old timers getting their usual Friday orders was awesome and reaffirmed with me that this is what myCampmate is all about, finding those locals-know-best places!
